Baku is the largest and the biggest city in Azerbaijan. It has been social-political center since beginning of the last century. Oil was one of the major reasons of urban development in Baku. Therefore, some people called it the city built by oil. Quite recently, in the era of the second oil boom the media had dubbed it as New Dubai on the coast of the Caspian Sea.
You may also hear the local people to name their city as the city of winds due to strong winds of Khazri (the cold north Caspian Sea wind) and Gilavar (the warm southern wind).
In our version of Baku Tour we present a historical tour with a context of social, cultural, political and every day life. It takes you through old city and the downtown on the background of stories from life of oil barons in late 19th and early 20th century.
