Explore the historic villages of the Absheron Peninsula

Travel from central Baku to Surakhani to explore Ateshgah, the historic Fire Temple associated with Hindu, Sikh and Zoroastrian worshippers who travelled through the region between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries.

Continue through Ramana village to see the medieval castle from outside, the local Second World War memorial and the oil fields that reveal the industrial landscape surrounding Baku.

The route then reaches Yanar Dag, where natural gas burns continuously on the hillside. On the return to Baku, stop beside the Heydar Aliyev Center for photographs of the city’s best-known contemporary landmark.
