Baku Oil Heritage Walking Tour

The tour highlights how oil changed Baku as as the new generation of the first era of oil boom assumed their social responsibility for a change in an oriental conventional Muslim society. Baku Original Walking Free Tour offers a walk through the most historic sightseeing highlights of Baku, the Fountains Square and four UNESCO sites in Old Town (Icherisheher) meanwhile reflecting on Baku’s past and the transformation that brought by oil barons and their quest for personal glory and fame.

You will also get acquainted with social, cultural, political aspect of every-day life in Baku on the background of stories based on real life of oil barons in late 19th and early 20th century as well as soviet and modern times. You will have insight on of small medieval religious town’s transformation into cosmopolitan city. The tour ends with a free cup of local black tea at Coffee Moffie.

Ateshgah and Yanardag Tour



Ateshgah Temple (trans. Fire Temple) is 17th-19th century temple was built by Hindu and Zoroastrian worshipers and traveller, and was regularly visited place for fire-worshipers in Surakhany. People of hinduism and zoroastrianism would go on a pilgrimage to this place. However, it operates as only museum currently. During late 19th and warly 20th centuries, Surakhany, Sabunchu, Ramana villages were producing industrially huge volume of oil, though it is dormant today. Along the road trip you will observe oil rigs and derricks which are still functional. Yanardag (trans. Fire Mountain) in Mammadali village is the place, where you observe flaming gas that comes from the hill that resembles Ateshgah in 18th century. Natural gas flares continuously from ancient times and is one of best illustration why local people call Azerbaijan as “Land of Fire”. 


Ateshgah Temple, Oil fields of Ramana village, Yanardag and 15 minutes photoshooting of Heydar Aliyev Cultural Centre are the attractions to visit.

Group Tour to Gobustan and Absheron


Visit UNESCO World Heritage site at Gobustan National  Park to eyewitness culture of prehistoric humans depicted on Rock as rock-art representation, and Gobustan Mud volcanoes in Dashgil to explore surface similar to one on the Moon as anomalic geological processes in exuding mud volcanoes and Bibi Heybat Mosque, a historic mosque with cultural and social value.

Afterwards we visit a castle-like hindu-zoroastrian pilgrimage site of Ateshgah (Fire) Temple from XVIII-XIX century, Oil fields and ‘nodding donkey’ (oil pump) of Ramana village and Ramana castle from XII-XIV century, ever-lasting fire at Yanardag and later 15 minutes photo-shooting of Heydar Aliyev Centre.


Gobustan Museum of PetroglyphsisGobustan Mud volcanoes in Dashgil and Bibi Heybat Mosque, Ateshgah and Yanardag are the attractions to visit.
